Software-Defined Mobile Networks (SDMN) extend the idea of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) into mobile networks. The aim is improving the scalability and adaptability of the mobile network architectures to varying and diverse traffic demands by leveraging existing host and network virtualization technologies besides SDN. NFV decouples software implementations of network functions from the hardware resources. SDN separates the network control functions from the data forwarding elements and logically centralizes the network control functions to enable programmability of the networking equipment through programmable interfaces.
